27.6. - 30.6.08, Brasov, Romania
22.6. - 27.6.08, On The Road in Romania
This week, On The Road Productions was very much like in the last years: Loooking for places far away from civilisation, driving, driving. As usually, Romania stunned us with landscapes and friendliness.
16.6. - 21.6.08, at Art Klinika in Novi Sad, Serbia
In Novi Sad we were happy to be welcome by Art Klinika. They let me put up my darkroom in their mini-gallery called 'Shock Room'. Enjoying their hospitality, we had a very productive time, alternating between lab-work (that became a kind of performance even shown on Serbian TV), and being taken out in the evenings. I did another 'In Situ'-photography, a two minute-exposure of the team that runs the place, and developed and printed it on the spot, leaving it to Art Klinika as a 'Unikat'.

8.6. - 15.6.08, Sarajevo/Bosnia

Sarajevo and the rest of Bosnia-Herzegovina would fill a whole book, and I guess there are actually quite some. Trying to find 'points of interest', I got lost in the maze of war, religion, agression and rain. So maybe better just look at the photos. The title is the name that most of the people we met here give to that place: Mordor... here are the photos
3.6. - 7.6.08, Metelkova/Ljubljana
We spent a few days in Ljubjana's famous squat, Metelkova (>link to Metelkova's page in English). The place came into existence about 15 years ago, and after long struggles with the city, it now has a legal status. Metelkova houses ateliers, clubs, a gallery, and from thursday to saturday, it is the hangout for the young and grungy.
Interesting enough, just around the corner, another squat opened, Tovarna Rog (>link to Tovarna Rog page in Slowenian); but it was never ment to be a squat. When having a positive feedback from the city, the organisers, a group of landscape architects, sociologists and other serious minds, called for the opening of the former bicycle factory. Their idea was to make open ateliers, that are absolutely freely accessible (that means no private property, everything is common), but on the day before the opening, the city decided to change its mind, and didn't sign the well prepared contracts. What to do? For sure, the people moved in anyways, but from then on, they had to fight aginst being thrown out. Also the original idea suffered from the lack of possible infrastructure (no sewage, no electricity), and Tovarna Rog became more a home for junkies and alike, then the imagined playground. Nowadays, the situation is kind of balanced; Tovarna Rog is opened mostly for concerts and events, whilst during the day it seems dead empty.
During our stay in Metelkova, I held a small photoworkshop to demonstrate how easy it is to take a picture and develope it. The outcome is a b/w print on a piece of wood, that underlines the strenghts of material.
Thanks to Bojana for her nice Holga pictures!
